Located in the regional town of Mildura, between metropolitan Melbourne and the remote interior, NAP Contemporary sits at a unique intersection—both geographically and culturally. Its exhibition program reflects this positioning between worlds.
Gallery directors Erica Tarquinio and Riley Davison draw on deep experience working in renowned Indigenous-owned art centres across the Western Desert and the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands. This knowledge informs NAP’s commitment to presenting powerful and significant voices in Pacific art within a commercial gallery context.
What began as an Instagram project—New Australian Paintings—has evolved into a physical gallery space, established in 2022. Since then, NAP Contemporary has participated in leading national and international art fairs, including the Aotearoa Art Fair (2023), Spring1883 (2023), Sydney Contemporary (2024), and Melbourne Art Fair (2025).
NAP Contemporary is a signatory to the Indigenous Art Code (IAC) and collaborates with Indigenous owned art centres across Australia.
NAP Contemporary acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and operate. We pay our respects to elders past and present.
