Alexandra Peters
b. 19--, Australia. Lives and works between Narrm and Warrnambool on Gundijtmara land.
Alexandra Peters is a painter, sculptor, and screen printer from Melbourne. Her practice situates itself within the field of expanded painting through the interrogation of support structures and framing devices. Her artworks allude to the mechanical processes of reproduction, inviting the viewer to become stuck in the motion of a copy of a copy. Inside a process of positive decomposition, the artwork envelopes the viewer into a machine that questions ideas of durability, decay, and survival. She regularly works with imitation materials like vinyl and leatherette, as well as found metal objects. She completed her honours degree in Fine Art at Monash University in 2022, where she was the recipient of the Monash University Museum of Art Award and the Megalo Print Studio Graduate Residency. Peters has also been selected for Hatched: National Graduate Show 2023 at Perth Institute of Contemporary Art. Peters has exhibited work locally as well as internationally. Peters lives and works between Narrm and Warrnambool on Gundijtmara land.
